A History of Bronze

For several years now, Oris has proven its love by regularly offering us models with bronze cases, to the delight of collectors who love to see this living alloy develop a patina and become more valuable over time! In 2020, the company presented a limited edition Hölstein Edition 2020 watch with a bronze case and bracelet. This was a first in the history of contemporary watchmaking.

For the year 2022, Oris wants to add a full bronze piece to the catalogue, as part of the current collection. While the flagship Big Crown model already existed in a case with this alloy on a leather strap, in a wide variety of dial colours, it now finds itself dressed in a bronze strap as well!

Overview

This Big Crown has a 40mm case with a fluted bezel, equipped with an oversized crown and a rice-grain strap, absolutely everything is in solid bronze on this new iteration of Oris' absolute bestseller, released in 1938. Only the case back is made of satin-finished stainless steel to avoid oxidation too quickly. Dressed in this way, this model is very attractive. The bronze brings a touch of preciousness and warmth to the watch once on the wrist. The multi-link bracelet, relatively thin, is also very pleasant to wear. Its lugs are 20mm apart. As the watch is worn, this almost living material will evolve under the eyes of its owner, taking on a unique patina. What could be more beautiful than an object with character? Beware of water, however, as bronze does not like it very much. The water resistance is only 50 metres.

The Oris 754 calibre

This Big Crown Bronze Pointer Date is powered by Oris Calibre 754, which the brand has developed from a Sellita SW201 base to implement the central hand date complication. The time is accurate and the automatic winding is driven by the characteristic red Oris rotor, visible through the sapphire case back. A power reserve of 38 hours is available when the watch is not worn on the wrist.
