- Limited edition
The year 2022 marks the 55th anniversary of the 44GS case, which remains the iconic model to represent Grand Seiko's design. To honor this milestone, the Manufacture presents the SLGH009, a limited edition with the brand's new generation Hi-Beat caliber.
Grammaire du design
The "Grand Seiko Style" is also called Grammar of Design. This stylistic code was conceived by the first designer hired by the Seiko brand, the Japanese Taro Tanaka. He wanted to make Seiko watches stand out in the window next to the Swiss competitors. To achieve this, he drew up a list of basic rules to follow, expressing simplicity, purity and practicality. The use of light and its reflection is one of the main rules, which is why the facets of the case are hand polished in the Zaratsu style to create distortion-free surfaces, allowing the edges of the case to be sharp and precise. The hands and hour markers are also diamond-cut to provide great readability, even in low ambient light. The dials are clear and easy to read. And it is thanks to all these elements that you can recognize a Grand Seiko!
An anniversary model
The Grand Seiko Manufacture has decided to mark this 55th anniversary with a white stone! To celebrate, Ever-Brilliant steel makes its debut at Grand Seiko, with the case and bracelet made of this new alloy, which as its name suggests, has a brilliant white coloring that enhances the beauty of its case. In addition, it offers unparalleled resistance to corrosion.
Even today, the 44GS remains an expression of the essential characteristics of Grand Seiko: precision, legibility, beauty and a philosophy of form that follows function. Its modern case is 40 mm in size, with a very complex geometry and finish, mixing flat surfaces with brushed and polished facets using the Zaratsu technique. With the use of Ever-Brilliant steel, this finish is the focus of attention.
A dial inspired by the stars.
Drawing inspiration from the starry sky, the dial of this watch draws the eye with its depth and texture. Its deeply engraved pattern depicts the elliptical path of the stars, capturing the serenity of the celestial time flow with its fluid, continuous lines.
An exceptional mechanism
At the heart of this dazzling case is the exceptional caliber 9SA5, powering a 44GS model for the first time. With its 36,000 vibrations, its free sprung balance, its double impulse escapement and its double barrels, this movement launched in 2020 and produced by the watchmakers of the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, represents the future of Japanese mechanical watchmaking. Offering a precision of -3 to +5 seconds per day and a power reserve of 80 hours, this caliber 9SA5 is considered by many enthusiasts as the best Hi-Beat caliber on the market!
Very powerful, it is nevertheless very well finished! Indeed, we find "côtes de Genève" known internally at Grand Seiko as Shizukuishi River Stripes, which contrasts with the beveling of the edges, the edges and the screw holes. The blued screws and gold tone add bold color accents that are found for the first time on a stainless steel model.
