The first Portofino watch was designed in 1984, to embody the happy marriage of elegance and mechanical refinement. This collection is a sure bet for lovers of intricacies who want a piece of fine watchmaking. Indeed, the model we have the pleasure to present to you today is one of the jewels of the Portofino family. But let's first focus on the design of this piece.

This elegant 45 mm round stainless steel case offers a silvered dial with a very efficient display layout. There is a small seconds at 6 o'clock, with a power reserve indicator at 9 o'clock and a date at 3 o'clock. The hours and minutes are indicated by leaf hands passing over applied indexes in pink gold. The whole is protected by a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. But behind its great simplicity, a real mechanical complexity is hidden.

A calibre with an exceptional power reserve

This hand-wound mechanical calibre was developed and manufactured by the Schaffhausen Manufacture. With its strong watchmaking tradition, IWC wanted to demonstrate all its know-how with this calibre 59210. It has the dimensions of a pocket-watch movement but with the construction and precision required for a 21st century watch. Its design moves away from the Swiss codes to come closer to the German standards. Equipped with a single barrel, it offers a power reserve of 192 hours, i.e. 8 days, even if it is technically capable of offering 9 days of autonomy. Indeed, the IWC watchmakers have decided to limit the power reserve to 192 hours, in order to avoid the complete relaxation of the spring force, thus allowing an exemplary precision. Speaking of precision, the balance oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a Breguet-type balance spring.

The technical side is not the only strong point of this calibre. The design and finishing of this movement have also received special attention. There are two large bridges, finely decorated with Côtes de Genève, and the engraving "Probus Scafusia", meaning "Proven product of Schaffhausen", can be found in the centre.

Its Italian leather strap is original and was made by the Santoni shoe company. It has an exceptional patina and is accompanied by the original pin buckle.
