Grammar of Design

The "Grand Seiko Style" is also called the Grammar of Design. This style code was conceived by the first designer hired by the Seiko brand, the Japanese Taro Tanaka. He wanted to make Seiko watches stand out in the shop window alongside the Swiss competitors. To achieve this, he drew up a list of basic rules to follow, expressing simplicity, purity and practicality. The use of light and its reflection is one of the main rules, which is why the case facets are hand-polished in the Zaratsu style to create distortion-free surfaces, allowing the case edges to be sharp and precise. The hands and hour markers are diamond-cut to provide great legibility, even in low light conditions. The dials are clear and easy to read. And it is with all these elements that you can recognize a Grand Seiko!

An anniversary model

This new SBGJ255 has a more modern case than its ancestor. Measuring 40 mm in diameter, it is made of high-intensity titanium and features a combination of brushed and polished surfaces in the Zaratsu style, the House's signature. The 44GS style is instantly recognisable, with its angled design reflecting the slightest amount of light. The case is topped by a curved sapphire crystal and has a semi-recessed crown allowing water resistance to 100 metres.
The main feature of this Grand Seiko is its dial, which is silver-white with a very discreet vertical texture. The GMT hand as well as the blue GMT and GS logos bring a subtle contrast. A real success for the brand!

The movement

The watch is equipped with the Hi-Beats GMT 9S86 calibre operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour. It offers 55 hours of power reserve and an accuracy of -3 to +5 seconds per day. Through the transparent back, one can see the special rotor with the Grand Seiko lion emblem. The oscillating weight is made in a golden hue obtained by an anodic oxidation process, in which the titanium is subjected to electrolysis to generate an oxide film. This allows for a sublime variation of colours with light!
