The Astron collection offers the world's first Solar GPS watch! Innovative and technical, it is one of the most prestigious ranges of the Japanese brand. Indeed, Astron connects to the GPS network at the touch of a button to adjust to your time zone. It draws all the energy it needs from light, so you'll never need to replace its battery. Seiko's electronic know-how is certainly responsible for creating the Astron, a true technological work of art. Most of the models are made of titanium, to offer absolute lightness and comfort. In addition, the know-how of Seiko Optical can be found in the Super-Clear treated sapphire crystal, an impressive anti-reflection coating!
A historical collection
On December 25, 1969, Seiko released the world's first quartz wristwatch: the Seiko Astron Quartz 35SQ. This watch was a real breakthrough that changed the history of the global watch industry. In 2012, Seiko launched another revolutionary watch, marking a second phase of profound transformation. A world first again: the Seiko Astron GPS Solar. This watch too is an expression of the forward-thinking spirit of Seiko founder Kintaro Hattori's motto to "Always be one step ahead". This new Astron sets new standards in high-precision innovation by succeeding, like its 1969 predecessor, in appropriating existing technology in a different form and adapting it to be worn on the wrist, in a watch that is the smallest, lightest and thinnest of all that had been imagined before. Today, the Astron GPS Solaire takes on a new dimension with new calibres that are ever more precise and technological!
The latest Astron calibre: 5X53
This Astron is powered by Seiko's most technological and finest solar GPS movement, the 5X53 Dual-Time. When time zone adjustment is required, a simple push of a button is all it takes for the hands to move automatically and independently to indicate the local time, including daylight saving time. The wearer can also choose to switch instantly between the reference time and local time zone display and vice versa by simply pressing both push buttons simultaneously. In addition, the 5X53 caliber connects up to twice a day to the GPS network to maintain its accuracy around the world (1 second difference every 100,000 years if it remains connected to the network.) Moreover, there is no need to set the date, which is set automatically thanks to its perpetual calendar function, set to always have the right date until February 28, 2100. The watch has a battery life of six months on a full charge, and two years if the GPS function is deactivated.
