History of the Seamaster Diver 300M: the iconic diver!
1993 is probably one of the most important dates for Omega: the launch of the very first Seamaster Diver 300M on the market! This launch marked Omega's triumphant return to diving watches and proved that the brand's ingenuity was more alive than ever. Positioned at the time as a refined and luxurious diver's watch, it broke with the design language of the Seamaster 300 and 600 of the previous decades, showing a revolution of sorts. Indeed, the changes and developments of the 1990s inspired new designs and propelled the brand into the spotlight. The chronograph version was even named Watch of the Year in 1994! The launch of the Seamaster Diver 300M also coincided with the brand's new marketing strategy in the 1990s, aimed at breaking records and becoming a true icon, to bring Omega into the modern era with a vision full of fervor. From its launch, it accompanied Frenchman Roland Specker to a depth of 80 meters, setting the world record for free diving in fresh water. In 1995, it marked a close relationship with the world of sailing when Sir Peter Blake, along with several sailors from the New Zealand team, wore the diver during their unforgettable victory in the America's Cup. But it was the film GoldenEye that really propelled this watch to iconic status! For the first time, James Bond wore a Diver 300M on his wrist!
Omega Seamaster Diver 300M and James Bond, a long love story.
It was in 1995 that Omega won the favor of its most famous customer to date! When Agent 007 returned to the big screen in GoldenEye, it was impossible to miss the blue Seamaster Diver 300M that adorned Pierce Brosnan's wrist. It was Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming who wanted the watch to be a credible model for a naval commander. Indeed, it was Omega's connection to the military world that gave birth to the Seamaster! That moment sealed the Seamaster's fate forever. Since 1995, James Bond and the Seamaster have been inseparable on screen. The watch often saves his life with explosive gadgets that logically did not make it into the mainstream versions. Thanks to 007, the Seamaster has a new legacy that is truly in tune with its fans. Since then, this collaboration between James Bond and the Omega Manufacture has been the longest cooperation in the history of cinema! This sporty watch simply went from Pierce Brosnan's wrist to Daniel Craig's.
