While remaining faithful to the DNA of Ressence, the Type 1², also known as "squared", differs from the rest of the collection by its design. Born from the intersection of 6 spheres, it has an elegant cushion-shaped case
Getting closer to the traditional codes of the Haute Horlogerie universe
Ressence aims to bring a new vision of what contemporary Haute Horlogerie should be and it is with the Type 1 that the Belgian designer Benoît Mintiens brings a new type of mechanical watch. First of all, let's take a look at the brand's name, composed of two words, it is a contraction of "Renaissance" and "Essential", this Squared version corresponds perfectly to the brand's objective. Part of the brand's sleekest range, the Slim, this mixed version is thinner and smaller than the rest of the collection. Based on the original Type 1, it makes a few changes that subtly reintroduce some of the codes of traditional watchmaking.
By rethinking the usual model of the watch, the Manufacture differentiates itself from other brands by its visual balance, a clever mix of simplicity and complexity, to achieve something never seen before in order to create a timepiece that challenges what a wristwatch can be in the 21st century.
Without hands or crown, this "Less is more" philosophy brings this watch concept to a new experience that is playful, almost magical...
A "square" watch
Usually, with a Ressence watch, one finds oneself in unknown territory, facing an object going out of the classical standards of the 3 hands watch. But with this new version, the gap seems less important because it is more classical. Gone is the round shape, here is the cushion shape with a one-piece construction and the use of grade 5 titanium. 41 mm in diameter and 11 mm thick, it will perfectly fit your wrist.
However, the brand's inimitable DNA is still present, thanks in particular to the integration of a main dial and auxiliary dials rotating around each other like planets around the sun. The face of the watch changes continuously, representing the essence of the passing of time. The Type 1² B's plain black nickel silver dial is accompanied by a black barenia leather strap, itself made in two parts and wrapped around the fixed bail.
A curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflection treatment on both sides, very thin, overhangs the dial in order to protect it while being as discreet as possible. This ensemble gives the sensation that we can touch the hours and minutes with our fingertips.
Like all Ressence creations, the watch does not have a crown. However, there is a unique sense of balance. One wonders how this timepiece works, and it is with the case back that everything is played out. On the back of the watch, there is a small lever in the form of a retractable arc, the manipulation of which adds a new visual and physical effect to the product. It is reminiscent of the key once used to wind clocks, watches and other mechanical toys. This mechanism aims to replace the functionality of a crown that is too large for this sleek piece. Indeed, it allows winding in one direction as well as setting the time in the other. With this ingenious system, the user's ergonomic experience is improved.
All this is possible thanks to a unique module developed by the Ressence team.
Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS 1)
The patented ROCS 1 (Ressence Orbital Convex System) is a state-of-the-art watch complication module composed of 107 parts, whose main and secondary discs are visible directly on the dial. This offers a three-dimensional result, with a movement in perpetual evolution. This module is driven by the minute axis of a specially modified ETA 2892/A calibre. It offers 36 hours of power reserve, and keeps its usual frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.
The functions of the watch are classic: seconds (small hands), minutes (the large hand running along the dial) and hours (the sub-dial graduated from 1 to 12). The days of the week are added with an AM/PM indication, presented on the last small dial.
