The novelties follow one another but are not the same at Tudor! After introducing a gold version of the famous Black Bay 58 (Ref. M79018V-0001) and a silver version (Ref. M79010SG-0001), Tudor unveils a big surprise: the Black Bay Ceramic! It is a Tudor Black Bay watch with a ceramic case and bezel powered by a new manufacture caliber MT5602-1U, no less.

The detail that changes everything

The most remarkable and innovative feature of this Black Bay is invisible to the naked eye. This ceramic Tudor Black Bay is the first Tudor watch to be certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology in Bern, METAS, which in 2015 developed a new certification standard for wristwatches. METAS certification requires that the watch in question be made in Switzerland and certified by COSC, and that it also pass a battery of additional tests. These include testing the accuracy of the watch in 6 positions and at two power reserve levels (100% and 33%). Water resistance, power reserve length and especially resistance to magnetic fields are also at the heart of this new certification. The new Black Bay Ceramic is resistant to magnetic fields up to at least 15,000 gauss, which of course makes it completely resistant to the magnetism we encounter in our daily lives. Another detail that caught our attention is that it is the first Black Bay with the inscription "Black Bay" on its dial...

An advantageous plastic

This new Tudor Black Bay Ceramic has a stealthy look thanks to the use of a black ceramic with a bead-blasted finish. The case back, as well as the bezel and crown, are made of steel with a black PVD treatment. The bezel insert is made of ceramic with a beautiful sunray satin finish. We really like its domed black dial, which gives volume to the whole in association with the domed sapphire crystal. The cream color of its indexes and hands create a beautiful contrast with the dial. To complete the set this Tudor will be delivered with two straps: a hybrid strap made of leather and rubber with a folding clasp and a black fabric strap with a cream band and a black PVD treated 316L steel pin buckle.

Conclusion

The production of a METAS certified watch by Tudor is a strong signal sent by the brand to the watch industry. It means that Tudor is now at the technical forefront of watchmaking and positions it as a reference in the market segment of sports and diving watches under 5000€ where competition is raging...
