A little history

Bulova was founded in 1875 by Joseph Bulova who arrived in Manhattan at the age of nineteen. His technical and artistic innovations soon distinguished him. In 1912, he opened his first factory in Bienne to start a standardized mass production never seen before in the watchmaking world! This little anecdote should please you: In 1926, Bulova invented the first radio advertisement in history to tell the time with a "beep": At the tone, it's eight o'clock, Bulova Watch Time 

Accutron

The Accutron was released in 1960 and represented a revolution for the watch industry at the time. Indeed, the Accutron was the first high-frequency electric diapason watch, making it the most accurate watch in the world with a guaranteed maximum drift of 2 seconds per day. With such precision, the Accutron (short for "Accuracy" through "Electronic") no longer needed a crown for adjustments and the latter was symbolically relegated to the back of the case.  Its production stopped in 1977.

Bulova and the conquest of space

At NASA's request, the manufacture supplied various parts for no less than 46 space missions. In 1962, the watch was fitted to the wrists of all American train drivers. The Accutron was so popular and synonymous with prestige that it was given as a state gift by American presidents. Clocks from the in-ho Bulova factory are the only on-board watch instruments on Air Force One and US Air Force fighter jets. But it is on the wrists of American astronauts Scott Carpenter and Neil Armstrong and the King, Elvis Presley, that the watch is perhaps most evocative in terms of watchmaking posterity. The Accutron may not be the first watch worn on the Moon, but Bulova has earned its place in the history of space exploration!

The package

The model we are offering you today is equipped with a metal bracelet with a folding clasp signed with the original Bulova logo (the famous tuning fork!). Its steel bezel is graduated over 24 hours, its matte dial with tritium painted indexes has a very nice homogeneous patina as well as its hands including the GMT hand. On the case back is displayed "M6", indicating that the watch was produced in 1966.
